A private community of vacation cabins and year-round homes overlooking the Shenandoah Valley.

About Shenandoah Gap

Shenandoah Gap lies just north of Shenandoah, Virginia, on the western slope of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Created in the 1970s as a recreational community, Shenandoah Gap now boasts both vacation homes and year-round residents.

Its appeal is understandable. The Gap fronts on the Shenandoah River, where a common area allows access for property owners to launch a canoe, go fishing, have a picnic, or just watch the river flow. To the south the Gap is bordered by a long finger of the Shenandoah National Park that reaches from the mountains to the river. Because it is parkland, this area will remain preserved for posterity. To the east and north the Gap meets the large expanse of mountains and forest that defines the Blue Ridge.

Bear, wild turkey, deer and other wildlife live all around Shenandoah Gap, and mountain streams still run clear here. Some come to the Gap to rent a cabin for a week; some come to stay year round.

To reach Shenandoah Gap, take Route 340 south from Luray or north from Elkton. Near Grove Hill, where Route 340 crosses the Shenandoah River, turn on Route 650. Following the river, drive past Routes 603 and 602, then turn right on Cold Spring Drive and head through a brick and stone tunnel into the private community of Shenandoah Gap.

Note that no overnight camping is allowed in the river access area. All roads, community areas, and shared amenities are maintained through the dues paid by property owners.
